cardiff & Newport City Nature Challenge, 25-28 April
Cardiff is joining forces with their neighbours in Newport and residents from over 700 cities world-wide to take on the City Nature Challenge this year.
- By participating in the challenge, running 25–28 April, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the wildlife around you, and your observations could help protect local nature and support conservation efforts both locally and globally.
- Getting involved is simple! Just download the free iNaturalist app to your smartphone or tablet, and start uploading photos of the wildlife you encounter. You don’t need to be a wildlife expert – iNaturalist will assist you to identify and record the species you find. Plus, a community of scientists and nature enthusiasts will help verify your sightings.
- Why not go to the park on your own or with a group of friends or family and take part in the challenge. Hailey Park has lots of wildlife just waiting to be counted. Its a great opportunity to get out and about and do something for nature and have fun too, and you can join in on an event over at Forest Farm this weekend (FREE Event: Sunday 27 April 10am–2pm Forest Farm Pond dipping, minibeast hunting, bird watching. Book HERE).
regular Volunteer sessions
To manage Hailey Park effectively the rangers need the valuable assistance and support of practical volunteers to help with all sorts of tasks. No qualifications or experience are necessary; all that is required is enthusiasm, some old clothes, a sense of humour and a willingness to help conserve your local wildlife and heritage, and other tasks.
Arrangements are very flexible – anyone is welcome to join us, as often as they like, whether it is for half a day or just for an hour. Any young people under 18 need to bring along an adult.
The work with the rangers is fun to do and they make everyone welcome, and are easily bribed with cake!
FoHP support the work of the rangers and work to conserve, improve and celebrate Hailey Park.
