National Sporting Heritage Day
Thursday 30 September
As part of our National Sporting Heritage Day 2021 (#NSHD2021) project celebrating the
heritage of tennis in Hailey Park and Claude Hailey’s legacy, the Friends of Hailey Park would
like to invite you to our NSHD event.
heritage of tennis in Hailey Park and Claude Hailey’s legacy, the Friends of Hailey Park would
like to invite you to our NSHD event.
The Friends will also be celebrating their community grant award from Sporting Heritage CIC
and a week of activities and learning about tennis and Claude Hailey (also see our Podcasts), including with local
schools.
In addition to the grant, we are grateful to Tennis Wales | Tenis Cymru for their support
throughout the week in providing tennis equipment, coaching and for undertaking their own
research into the heritage of tennis in Cardiff and south Wales.
It is timely that we are celebrating public tennis facilities in the aftermath of Emma
Raducanu’s remarkable achievements in winning the US Open, for Emma first picked up a
racket on a public court in Kent. Who knows if a future tennis champion is currently cutting
their tennis teeth in Hailey Park?
The Friends also want to use the week of National Sporting Heritage Day to continue to re-engage
with the local Llandaff North and Gabalfa community and park users after the
pandemic, and remind them that they can help us, in partnership with Cardiff City Council,
maintain a vibrant, safe and pleasant park on the banks of the Taff.
If you cannot make the 30 September please note that members of the Friends committee will be at the
courts on occasions between 27 and 30 September, or by appointment via Email or Twitter. Also, see News page & our new Podcasts from the Friends of Hailey Park Soundcloud channel.
